Youth Support Programs

For 30 years, SANCSC partnered with the Texas Youth Council in hosting the annual Walter C. Gaskin Picnic for at-risk youth at the Ayres Halfway House, part of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).

The late Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) Walter C. Gaskin, was one of the founders of SANCSC, and an avid supporter of the TJJD.

For more than 20 years, we have also provided scholarships in the name of Chief Gaskin, to support aspiring youth who demonstrate academic dedication, leadership potential, and a commitment to serving others. These scholarships help ease the cost of transitioning to college for minority students.

For nearly 10 years, SANCSC members regularly visit Ayres Halfway House residents to mentor them through our M.I.S.T.E.R. program (Mentoring, Inspiring, Supporting, Teaching, and Empowering through Rapport) for residents between the ages of 12-18.

The intent of M.I.S.T.E.R. is to let each individuals know that they are cared for, to help build their confidence, reach their maximum potential, and to become valued community members upon their release.

SANCSC also conducts fundraisers to purchase supplies for students in some of San Antonio's most impoverished areas. The supplies are delivered on Veteran's Day.

Our scholarship, mentorship program, and distribution of school supplies help build a stronger future for the San Antonio community by empowering the next generation. By supporting our youth, we invest not just in their personal growth but in the greater good of our society.
